The power of videos

This week in Ed Tech, we learned about how powerful of a tool, videos can really be! Whether it be speaking over a series of pictures or slideshow, teacher speaking directly to the camera, or simply an educational video (like on Khan Academy), these tools can benefit student learning greatly. Some benefits of this are that we can rewind, review, and repeat certain sections (if they were not fully understood the first time).

I learned for the first time that there is a feature on youtube where you can skip ahead to a certain section depending on what information

This is an effective way to get the point across of what exactly you want to be viewed/ learned. You can also change the playback speed if the video is longer and you’d like to skim through, or perhaps slow it down to better understand.

We also learned that you can add your own subtitles to youtube videos (which Michael pointed out might become necessary in the future).

Another very interesting feature we learned about this week was “screencasts), which is super easy to do and a great way of creating videos.

Using this feature, I created this very short clip of bike pictures (a very randomly chosen topic). You can hear the noises of me clicking through the pictures, so this shows how sound is also being recorded here. If I was doing a lesson, I would be able to speak over the video and narrate my movie or slideshow.
